White Oak humbles Rains in 56-20 rout

Sept. 14, 2008 - EMORY -- White Oak jumped ahead early and new looked back taking a 56-20 win over Rains Friday night.

White Oak, especially Orlando Humble, took out their 1-9 frustrations from last season on Rains. Rains made a game of it in the second quarter with a pair of touchdowns by Travis Gibson to take a 14-13 lead. Jackson McCurty then raced around the left side of his line and sprinted 65 yards for a touchdown that gave White Oak a 21-14 lead at the half.

Rains tried to answer with a drive just before the half but on the last play of the half, Gibson took a screen pass from Taylor Marshall at the 12 yard line and headed for the goal line. He was stopped by White Oaks Jade Barnhill in a tremendous coLlision at the 1-yard line.

After that it was all White Oak as they took advantage of a pair of Rains turnovers and Humble's running to put the game away.

The lone bright spot in the second half came on a 57-yard touchdown pass from Marshall to Trevor Vandeventer. The try for the 2-point conversion falied.

Rains travels to Kemp next week to play the Kemp Yellowjackets.
