Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears score in Cumby Tournament

Sept. 12, 2008 - On Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008 , the Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears challenged the Yantis Lady Owls at the tournament in Cumby. Sulphur Bluff came out on top 2-1 in matches. For the first match Hayley Lawson was the leading scorer with ten points, and she had two aces. Kalen Halbert led the way with seven points in the second match. Halbert had three aces. Karissa Wolf scored seven points in the third match with two aces.
In the match against Cumby JV, the magic numbers were 25 and 13. Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears won two games to one. Match one was in Sulphur Bluff's favor, 25-13, with Becca Naylor scoring ten points. Cumby recovered in the second match, scoring 25 points over the Lady Bears' 13. Ashley Bryant led with nine points for the Lady Bears. In the third match Sulphur Bluff came back out on top again with a final of 25-13 with Lawson leading the scoring with eight points.
The final match for Sulphur Bluff on Thursday was against Lone Oak. Lone Oak dominated both matches. Sulphur Bluff scored eight to Lone Oak's twenty-five with Mikayla Potts scoring two. In the second match Sulphur Bluff scored 14 to 25 with Jessi Nichols scoring two.
On Saturday, Sulphur Bluff got off to another slow start. Losing both matches to Blue Ridge, 25-9 and 25-16. Becca Naylor scored the highest in the first match with six, and Ashly Bryant had three in second match against Blue Ridge.
The Lady Bears recovered in the matches against the Cumby Lady Trojans Jv team. They edged out a 28-26 win with Summer Stailey scoring seven points and two aces. Kalen Halbert led with seven in the second match along with Naylor.
