Sept. 11, 2008 - CUMBY-The Cumby Trojans will be led out on to the field tomorrow night for "Future Trojan Night" by the pee wee football players just prior to kick off at 7:30 p.m. against the Detroit Eagles.
"The Eagles have a good shotgun attack and we have been working on their passing game and containing their quarterback. Every week we believe we will bring home a W, " said Trojan head coach Ed Perez.
The recent wet weather hasn't been slowing down the Trojans (0-2) this week in their preparations to challenge the Eagles (1-0). This week is "a question of execution" for the Trojans to answer; in the last two weeks they haven't been able to deliver. It will take each player carrying out his assignment to be successful on Friday night especially with some injuries looming on the Trojan team.
"We have focused on going back to the basics this week and just fix the fundamentals which have led to our 0-2 start along with personnel getting acquainted with new positions." coach Perez explained. "The Eagles are basic in plays; they run out of their shotgun and simply do that well. Their backs are talented and have speed with will be our main focus. The score of the Highlands game, of 22-0, indicates that speed kills, and we must respect that aspect of their game."
Currently, Cumby is sitting at No. 127 according to Harris Ratings and are picked to win by 11 over Detroit. Coach Perez has a positive outlook for his team. "Our ratings will be on the rise soon."
Other match-ups in the district are: Gateway vs. Itasca, Boles vs. Life Oak Cliff, Wolfe City vs. Rivercrest, Celeste vs. Dallas A+, and Fruitvale is open this week.
