Will C-P hold the keys to victory?

Sept. 11, 2008 - COMO- Last week's loss, 37-15, to the Ore City Rebels was a difficult one to swallow for the Como-Pickton Eagles. "We have been working on being more physical on defense and reinforcing our pass blocking rule with the O Line." Eagle head coach Paul Tullis said, "the weather has not affected practice this week like it did last week. Practices have been more spirited and focused than last week."
Holding the keys to a victory over the Leonard Tigers (2-0) will mean the Eagles (1-1) must remain focused and play as a team. "They have an attacking defense very similar to the one Ore City and Prairiland played so we must play great technique on offense. They run the spread offense so we will have to play assignment defense to prevent big plays." Coach Tullis explains.
Leonard played Celeste (0-2) last week, prior to that game; they battled it out with Wolfe City in a one point game.
According to the Harris Ratings for week two, Leonard is picked to win by 11 over Como-Pickton. Currently, Como-Pickton is at #197, and Leonard is sitting at #181. Coach Tullis' concern was not for how the Eagles looked on paper, but how they rebound from last week with a "strong game". "We just played way too soft on defense," he continues.
The Eagles aren't looking to get any injured players back before district play. James Carter has been out with an injured knee and returns to see the doctor on Monday for a final evaluation. "Carter's athleticism was sorely missed last week. He could have been a two touchdown difference on both sides of the ball." said Coach Tullis. With the Eagles having an open week next week this will give the entire team an opportunity to rest and be ready for their first district game of the season against the Cooper Bulldogs. The Eagle homecoming is slated for this game on Friday, September 26.
Others district competitor match-ups this week include: Cooper hosts Mt. Vernon, Grand Saline travels to Mineola, Winnsboro is open, Caddo Mills hosts Quinlan, Quitman travels to Frankston, Lone Oak travels to Godley, and Alba-Golden hosts James Bowie.
Como-Pickton will travel to Leonard's Tiger Stadium on Friday, September 12, 2008; kick off time will be 7:30 p.m.
