Oct. 29, 2008 - LONGVIEW — The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats closed out their season Tuesday losing to the Lady Lobos, 25-18, 25-11, 25-20.

The Lady Cats end the year 2-12 in district play, 12-22.

Lady Cats head coach Rachel Curtis, in her second year, was encouraged by the progress of the team during the year.

"When looking back at the season, I believe we were a huge success.  The record doesn't show the great strides that were made in the program.  In one year's time, the level of play has increased, and the girls are getting better and better," Curtis said. "The girls have a great love for the game, and they truly know how to give 100 percent at all times. They came together as a team, never gave up, and fought through adversity to come out stronger on the other side.  This is a special group of girls, and I will miss the seniors very much. They have made an impact on this school and have set a very high standard for those to follow."

Curtis said the overall program is doing well thanks to work done by junior varsity coach Eric Buck and freshman coach David Carrillo.

"Other teams in our program did a great job as well.  The JV fought hard, and on many games, came back from deficits to make every game a great competition.  They worked hard and did a great job this season. Coach Buck coached them well. They competed well, and came away with several victories," Curtis said.

The Sulphur Springs freshmen Adefeated the Longview Lady Lobos 25-11, 25-16 Tuesday night to win the district championship outright and finish off a successful season.

The Ladycats also captured the championship in the Lady Lobo Classic earlier this year.

"The freshman are your buiding block The Lady Cats finished the year with a district record of 11-1 and finish the season 21-4," said coach David Carrillo.

Team members are: Gracie Cable, Victoria Calhoun, Katie Dougan, Alissa Doughtie, Melinda Escobar, Jessica Horton, Hannah McCampbell and Alex McGahee.
