Local students compete at Margo Harbison Invitational Cross Country Meet

Oct. 13, 2008 - Competing on Saturday at the Margo Harbison Invitational cross country meet at Texas A&M Commerce were local students from Como-Pickton, Sulphur Bluff, Winnsboro, Cooper, Saltillo, and Cumby.
The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles varsity team had Alondra Alonso placing 25th with a time of 15:15. Other Lady Eagles were Diana Ramirez, 79th, 17:28; Dianna Mejia, 88th, 18:05; Yurdia Morales, 96th, 19:02; Zolia Gonzales, 97th, 19:15.
From Winnsboro, NetNet Shepherd placed 24th running a time of 15:13. Shelly Smith, 83rd, 17:40; Haley Mills, 87th, 17:57; and Abigail Cook, 89th, 18:08 all participated for the Winnsboro varsity girls team.
Lady Bulldogs from Cooper runners were Crystal Martinez, 40th, 15:44 and Leigh Tatum, 95th, 18:54.
Competitors for the Cumby Lady Trojans were Courtney Salinas placing 68th, 17:01; Kristin Krodie, 91st, 18:24; and Chasity Nottingham, 102nd, 21:00.
For Sulphur Bluff, Fatima Tellez placed 72nd with 17:06.
For the overall team results, Sulphur Springs won third, North Hopkins won fourth, and Como-Pickton received 12th.
Competing in the high school boys 5K run was Everett Wilder from Sulphur Bluff. He received second place award with a time of 18:05. His teammates were Trey Henderson in ninth with a time of 19:12, Ryan Watts, 41st, 20:50; Zach Hope, 43rd, 20:57; Cameron Hancock, 98th, 24:30; and Landon Overly, 113th, 26:17.
For the C-P Eagle team Hunter Cain placed 12th, 19:25; Ole Guiterrez, 44th, 20:58; Seth Sturgill, 57th, 21:28; Billy Brenna, 92nd, 23:53; Neto Guerrero, 101st, 24:44; and Chris Preciado, 110th, 25:50.
Four members of the Saltillo team participated including: Arturo Trejo, 20th 19:59; Jose Perez, 66th, 22:00; Dillion Hamilton, 112th, 26:02; and Brett Moore, 120th, 26:33.
Placing for the Cumby Trojans was Edgar Arellanes in 93rd, 23:57.
Sulphur Springs won first in the HS boys division followed by North Hopkins, Sulphur Bluff was fourth, and Como-Pickton placed tenth.
For the junior high girls 2400 meter cross country run, North Hopkins Samantha Gamez was awarded third prize for her time of 10:11, and Stephanie Gamez received 12th for her time of 10:58. Others from North Hopkins were Yaquelin Cortez, 29th, 11:43; Leydie Franco, 35th, 12:01; Brittany Flanagan, 42nd, 12:13; Denise Calixto, 50th, 12:31; Dalila Cortez, 53rd, 12:36; and Macy Griner, 55th, 12:41. The junior high Lady Panthers came in fourth overall the other teams.
Sulphur Bluff runners for the junior high girls team were Virginia Rodriquez, 39th, 12:09; Kaitlyn Hancock, 54th, 12:39; and Katelyn Brown, 70th, 15:56.
Kari Szafran was 61st, 13:42; Krissy Carmen, 62nd, 13:45; Katy Gifford, 64th, 14:14; and Terri Johnson, 67th, 14:47 were all from Cooper.
Cumby placed third overall for the junior high boys 2400 meter run on Saturday. Luke Sartin won sixth with his time of 9:34, Luis Orsonio, 11th, 10:07; Brandon Gomez, 15th, 10:14; Kyle Barnett, 19th, 10:29; Dustin Heer, 50th, 11:42; Chandler Waters, 53rd, 11:47; and Arsenio Ugalde, 61st, with an even12:00.
Saltillo runner Clayton Jones had a second place winning time of 9:27.
Competing for the North Hopkins junior high boys were Ray Brown in third with 9:32; Cody Nix, 17th, 10:19; Jovanny Perez, 31st, 10:55; W. Silas, 36th, 11:08; Leonal Sanchez, 40th, 11:17; Edward Perez, 41st, 11:18; Trenton Dodd, 65th, 12:09; Jesse Williams, 77th, 12:55; Jose Lopez, 88th, 15:02.
Dustin Foster of Sulphur Bluff ran a fourth place time of 9:33; Cade Argenbright placed 37th, 11:08; Tyler Curtiss, 60th, 11:58; Dillion Harred, 75th, 12:39; and Clint Wolf, 83rd, 13:41 all for Sulphur Bluff team. The Bears overall placed eighth.
Running for the Como-Pickton junior high boys team were Dakota Johnson, 81st, 13:35; Jace Sturgill, 87th, 14:43; and Dylan Knight, 90th, 15:27.
