Cross country champs

Oct. 13, 2008 - COMMERCE -- The Sulphur Springs varsity boys took first place and the girls finished third here in cross country action Saturday.

"It's nice to win first, but more importantly we ran well as a team.We are getting close to district and I feel we can conitue to get better. We have a couple more weeks of sprint training and think that will help us to run our best when district arrives," said Sulphur Springs head cross country coach Andy Holt.

Ross Hicks, a senior runner had a time of 18:23 for third and senior Garrett Gray got fifth with a time of 18:53.

Other boys varsity times include: junior Preston Weaver, 19.21m 11th; Andrew Wallace, 19:42, 13th; senior Chris White, 19:50, 16th; freshman Micah Hampton, 19:51, 17th; sophomore Tanner Bolton, 20:22, 29th; junior Cody Morehead, 20:31, 33rd; senior Bailey Booher, 20:41, 12th and junior Tyler Usher, 21:37, 59th.

Varsity girls scores included: freshman Ayna Taylor, 14:39, 12th; sophomore Megan Massey, 15:04, 20th; junior Chelsea Foster, 15:22, 33rd; freshman Kasie Crowson, 15:34, 34th; sophomore, Frankiesha Hawkins, 15:42, 39th; sophomore Samantha Owens, 15:48, 44th; freshman, Ashley Gregory, 16:59, 65th; sophomore Sabrina Hutchins, 17:00, 67th; freshman Ashleigh Wallace, 17:35, 80th.

Middle school runner in the 2,400 meters, Madison Ramirez, 10:20, fourth competing as a seventh grader.
