Winnsboro takes 60-2 win over C-P

Oct. 12, 2008 - COMO -- The Highway 11 rivalry went the way of the No. 21-ranked Winnsboro Red Raiders Friday night at Ron Heflin Field.

WHS (4-2, 2-1 in District 13-2A) finished the night with 446 yards of total offense compared to 88 yards for the Como-Pickton Eagles in a 60-2 thumping to remain in the playoff race.

For the Eagles (2-4, 1-2), the road does not get any easier as they host the undefeated Caddo Mills Foxes next Friday before traveling to Quitman and then hosting Lone Oak on Halloween night.

The Red Raiders found a way to take advantage of six CPHS miscues as they jumped out to a 48-0 lead at the half behind three touchdowns from quarterback Sean Ditto.

Ditto had runs of 9, 8 and 68 yards as the Red Raiders scored on eight-of-their-first-nine drives of the game. Ditto also went 2-of-5 for 71 yards as Christian Bosold was on the receiving end of a 38-yard touchdown in the first quarter and finished with 71 yards receiving.

Winnsboro also had a pair of first half touchdowns from Zach Allen, who ran for 147 yards on four carries with touchdown runs of 18 and 80 yards. Josh Thacker also had two touchdowns on runs of 40 and 25 yards in the game and finished with eight carries for 90 yards and two touchdowns.

In the third quarter, Winnsboro coach Steve Pinnell went to his backups as Triston Leaks scored on a one-yard touchdown to round out the scoring for the Red Raiders.

For the second straight week, the Eagles struggled to find rhythm on offense as they had 75 yards of total offense against Grand Saline in an 8-7 win last week. This week, senior quarterback Austin Darby led the offense as he ran for 22 yards on 11 carries, while teammate James Carter had eight carries for 19 yards. Darby also finished 4-of-17 passing for 39 yards and one interception.

The Eagles were able to get on the scoreboard with 2:37 remaining in the game as Darby tackled back-up quarterback Zack Hensley in the end zone to make the score 60-2.

In other District 13-2A contest, Lone Oak defeated Alba-Golden 48-3, Caddo Mills thumped Grand Saline 55-14 and Quitman defeated Cooper 20-13.
