Sports briefs : Middle school girls defeat Longview

Oct. 1, 2008 - The Sulphur Springs middle school girls won over Longview Foster with two games played.
In B team won by scores of 25-16, 25-19.Victoria Chapman led with 11 points and three aces while Emily Reynolds added four points.
For the A team, Sulphur Springs took victories by scores of 25-16, 25-18. Hailey Dixon led the Lady Cats with six service points; Kaylee Anderson, Michelle Riveria and Morgan Vaughn all added five points each. Mackenzie Cooper led in sets with five and she added five spikes; Toni Cody added two spikes and Jasmine Hart led in passes with 10.
The Lady Cats will be in tournament play Saturday in Emory.
Cumby Trojans now 3-0 in play
The Cumby Trojan Pee Wee football team composed of students in the third and fourth graders is now 3-0 for the year.
The team defeated Celeste, 37-0. Simeon Taylor scored on touchdown runs of 60, 20 and 3-yards in the win. Dedric Godbolt had a 35-yard scoring run and Noah Balint added a touchdown run from four-yards out. Added conversions were Sebastian Adams, Brayden Densmore, Jaxson Reneau and Godbolt. Wasey Warren completed three-of-four passes for 49 yards and a two-point conversion pass to Reneau.
he offensive line of Cy Killem, Denton Lawson, Aaron McDade, Brent Brewer, Dante Hall, Isaiah Neal, Austin Allen, and Reneau paved the way as the backs racked up over 200 yards rushing.
The defense recorded it's third shutout with the help of a touchdown saving tackle by Adams. The defensive line of Dee Dugan, Killem, McDade, and Jaylon Hawkins. Killem led the charge with two sacks and a safety. McDade also had a fumble recovery. The linebacking corp of Braylon Adams and Warren each had two tackles.
The junior team previously defeated Wolfe City and Lone Oak. The only score they have given up came on a fumble return against Wolfe City as they have outscored their opponents 61-6 through three games.
The team is coached by Jerry Warren, Marvin Warren, Sr., Marvin Warren, Jr., and Roderick Godbolt.
