Cumby falls to Wolfe City

Nov. 2, 2008 - WOLFE CITY - The Cumby Trojans even their district mark 2-2 with Friday's loss to the Wolfe City, 59-15.

The Trojans began the scoring for the night against the Wolves (5-3, 4-0), but it wasn't enough to put a stop their district winning streak. The win sets up an interesting week on play for week 10. For District 14-1A, Quinlan Boles remains undefeated, Wolfe City is 4-0, Celeste sits at 2-2 even with Cumby, and Fruitvale and Dallas Gateway have yet to win a district game.

The Trojans set forth a total yardage for the night at 381.Gaining 240 in passing and 141 rushing for Cumby.

Trojan junior Timmy Cook led in passing with a huge 240 yards. He completed 12 for 30 attempts with one touchdown and three interceptions.

For rushing, Trojan junior Rodney Hobbs gained 79 yards on 16 carries, junior Michael Morris carried 15 for 31 yards with a three-yard TD and a three-yard two point conversion, Cook had seven carries for 28 yards, freshman Levi Wooten had two carries for six yards, and senior Ryan Vaughn gained three yards on a carry.

Hobbs had a long 75-yard catch for a TD along with snagging three more gaining 116 for the Trojan team. Contributing to the receiving was Morris with four catches for 55 yards, senior Chris O'Neal caught three for a gain of 57 yards, freshman Jordan Strickland made a catch for 13 yards, junior C.J. Ringenberg had a catch for 8 yards, and sophomore Justin Akers had a catch for a short two-yard gain.

Trojan junior Taylor Gay was one for one on PAT.

Cumby hosts the Celeste Blue Devils in the last district game for the season. It will be Senior Night at Trojan Stadium. Kick off is set for 7:30 on Friday, Nov. 7.
