Owls fall to Beckville

From Staff Reports

May 6, 2008 - HAWKINS - The Yantis Owls batted around and stormed to a 7-0 first inning lead, but could not hold the big bats of Beckville falling 16-7 in bi-district action last Friday night.

"We got after them early, but we made some mental mistakes and errors that hurt us and they got the big hits at the right time," Yantis head coach Larry Tucker said. "We suited up nine kids and I am proud of everyone of them for the effort they gave me on the field."

The Owls got seven first inning runs on five hits, two walks, an error and a sacrifice fly.

The Owls chased Beckville's ace, Seth Hubbard, from the mound with 12 batters going to the plate.

The Bearcats brought in Stephen Bogenschutz who gave up no runs, three hits and struck out eight Owls in 6 2/3 innings.

Freshman Allen Rose had three hits for Yantis and Jordan Davis added a pair of hits including a double and two RBI. Zach Wester also had two hits for the Owls.

The Owls ended the season with an 8-7 slate.
