Hawthorne, Partridge pace Cumby JH tracksters

March 28, 2008 - Cumby eighth-graders Lynx Hawthorne and Valerie Partridge each won four individual events at the District 20-A track and field meet on Thursday.

Hawthorne placed first in the long jump, 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes. Partridge, meanwhile, won the long jump, triple jump, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

The girls team finished in third place overall and the boys finished fourth overall.

For the Trojans, Cory Burrow placed second in the 800-meter run, and Justin Smith took third in the same event and fifth in the 400. Smith also ran a leg on the fifth-place 4x200 relay team along with Levi Wooten, Brandon Jones and Brandon Heer.

In the field events, Jordan Strickland placed sixth in the discus.

In the girls division, Breanna Gay won the discus and was fifth in the shot put. Courtney Salinas picked up a gold medal in the 200, was fifth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump.

Monica Moore placed fifth in the 800 meter run.
