Trojans run-rule Sulphur Bluff

From Staff Reports

March 27, 2008 - Cumby sophomore righthander Brixx Hawthorne allowed only one hit, going the distance on the mound in a 13-1 victory on Sulphur Bluff on Tuesday in a game shortened due to run rule.

Hawthorne struck out six in the win, and had an RBI and a double at the plate.

Cumby's Jason Wallace clubbed his first home run with a two-run blast over the left field wall in the five-run first inning. He also added a bases-loaded three-run double in the six-run second inning. Tanner Gomez had two doubles and a single, driving in two runs. Leadoff batter Tim Cook scored on all three of his at-bats, two walks and a single.

"This was Brixx's first start in three weeks, I thought he threw the ball well, plus he showed some maturity on the mound-throwing strikes and pitching with a lead, letting his defense work behind him," said Cumby head coach Scott Mabe. "Jason Wallace had a big day at the plate. We did a better job of getting ahead in the count and looking for good pitches to hit."

Cumby (6-6, 2-1) travels to Roxton on Friday for a 5 p.m. start.
