North Hopkins opens district with win over Saltillo

March 25, 2008 - BIRTHRIGHT - The North Hopkins Lady Panthers opened up the District 17-A softball season with a 10-2 win over the Saltillo Lady Lions on Friday.
The Lady Panthers (11-6) recorded 12 hits off of Saltillo pitcher Kirsten McLane as Chelsea Hampton went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Courtney Loper, Cayla Newkirk, Tana Hall and Chrissy Hall each had two hits in the game. Chastin Smiddy rounded out the hitting with one hit and a run scored.
The pitching duo of Jessica Harry and Smiddy combined for a two-hitter while striking out 12 Saltillo batters.
"The defense and pitching were good overall," said NHHS coach Jim Westbrook. "Jessica Harry played well at shortstop and Hampton did a good job at catcher."
