Rain, rain won't go away

SSHS has more games postponed due to weather

March 19, 2008 - A spring thunderstorm that dropped more than four inches of rain in less than 24 hours washed out SSHS softball and baseball games that were originally scheduled for Tuesday.

The Lady Cats' district softball contest against Texas High was postponed and originally reset for Wednesday afternoon, but had to be rescheduled again because the field could not be ready for today.

Instead, the game is scheduled to be played Friday afternoon in Texarkana. The JV game is set to start at 2 p.m. with the varsity to follow at 4 p.m.

The Lady Cats have another District 11-4A contest tomorrow at home against North Lamar, as originally scheduled. Game times are 4:30 p.m. for JV and 6 p.m. for varsity. However, SSHS head coach David Carrillo said they will be hard-pressed to get that game in because Lady Cat Park got so much rain.

"I don't know if we can get the field ready in time for Thursday. If not, we'll reschedule the North Lamar game," Carrillo said. "We should be able to play on Friday, so I think we'll get that game in."

The Lady Cats are sporting a 14-6 record, 1-0 in district.

On the baseball diamond, Wildcat head coach Jerrod Hammack had already rescheduled Tuesday's game against Mesquite Horn ahead of time because of the forecast for rain.

The Wildcats (5-6) are scheduled to play a doubleheader tomorrow at Eagle Stadium. If the field can be ready to play, they will take on Longview at 1 p.m. and Mesquite Horn at 4 p.m.

The Wildcat soccer team will also be playing on Thursday. They will open the bi-district round of the playoffs at 7:30 p.m. against the McKinney Boyd Broncos at the auxiliary field at Boyd High School. Tickets are $4 for adults and $3 for children.

The game will be played on Field Turf, so the condition of the field should not come into play despite the heavy rain.

The SSHS track teams will be traveling to the Arlington on Saturday to participate in the Grace Prep Invitational on the campus of UT-Arlington. The meet, which will be JV and varsity girls and boys, will start at about 9 a.m.
