Lady Panthers stretch win streak to five games

March 11, 2008 - BIRTHRIGHT - The North Hopkins Lady Panthers won their fifth straight game on Saturday, shutting out Avery 10-0 in six innings.

Chastin Smiddy, Cayla Newkirk, Courtney Loper and Jessica Harry each had two hits for the Lady Panthers, and Smiddy scored three runs. Chelsey Hampton, Ashley Deaton and Crissy Hall each had a hit and scored a run.

In the circle, Harry and Smiddy combined for a one-hit shutout. Harry picked up the win by fanning seven in four innings. Smiddy pitched the final two innings, striking out three.

"We've been playing very well in winning five in a row," said NH head coach Jim Westbrook. "Jessica and Chastin have been pitching well and the defense is working."

Defensively, Newkirk and catcher threw out two base runners.
