Winter weather prompts sports cancellations, postponements

March 7, 2008 - The late winter storm that blew through Northeast Texas on Thursday led to the cancellation or postponement of all the SSHS sports for yesterday and today.
The freezing rain and light snow hit early enough on Thursday to disrupt the SSHS JV softball tournament after the first game. Everything else was canceled before it ever got started.
The SSHS JV tournament got one game in and had started the second game when the rain hit. The tournament was suspended at that point.
Coaches hope the tournament can resume tomorrow if the fields are ready, but that seems like a long shot because of the amount of rain the area endured.
The varsity's scheduled game against Pittsburg - which had already been postponed from Monday due to weather - was supposed to have been played last night, but it was also canceled. The Lady Cats were snowed out of their scheduled game today at Bishop Lynch in Dallas.
The Lady Cats' next game is set for Tuesday at home against Liberty-Eylau. It will be the final game before district starts next Friday.
The Wildcat varsity was scheduled to play in its final tournament, the Ennis Lions Allen Samuels Autoplex Invitational Tournament, on Thursday through Saturday, but the entire event was canceled this morning.
The Wildcats' next game is 6 p.m. Tuesday at Gladewater.
The SSHS JV's tournament in Forney was also washed out. They are scheduled to play at 6 p.m. Tuesday at home against Crandall.
The SSHS freshmen, meanwhile, are scheduled to play Pittsburg in a doubleheader starting at noon tomorrow. Those games are also in jeopardy because of the field condition at Eagle Stadium.
The Lady Cats JV and varsity were scheduled to host Texas High tonight in a District 16-4A contest, but Texarkana received up to six inches of snow and the school district restricted travel.
The make-up games are scheduled for noon and 2 p.m. tomorrow at Gerald Prim Stadium - if the freshmen baseball games are canceled. Since Prim Stadium sits adjacent to Eagle Stadium, baseball and soccer games cannot be played at the same time because of the risk of foul balls hitting soccer players and fans.
If the Lady Cats cannot play soccer tomorrow, the JV game will be canceled and the varsity will play at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Prim Stadium.
The Wildcats' match against T-High scheduled for Thursday was canceled and will be made up Monday at Prim Stadium, starting at about 7 p.m.
The Wildcats are also scheduled to play Pittsburg tomorrow at Prim Stadium. The games were originally scheduled for earlier in the day, but because of the freshmen baseball game, have been pushed back to 4 p.m. for JV and 5:45 for varsity.
The SSHS boys and girls were scheduled to run at Rockwall Heath on Thursday, but the meet was canceled early in the day. It will not be rescheduled. Weather permitting, the Wildcats and Lady Cats will hold an intrasquad meet today at Forrest Gregg Field.
The NorthStar Bank Denton Invitational will tee off tomorrow after today's first round was canceled due to the weather.
The SSHS boys will be part of a 28-team field scheduled to begin play on Saturday with the field split between Robson Ranch and Denton Country Club.
