Dixie Softball: Ponytails playing in championship game tonight

From Staff Reports

June 30, 2008 - The Hopkins County Ponytails team will be playing tonight for a berth in the Dixie State Tournament.

The Ponytails will be in the championship game, starting about 7 p.m. tonight at Coleman Park, against either Red River or Franklin County.

Red River and Franklin County will be finishing their semifinal game, which started on Saturday but was interrupted by thunderstorms. The game was in the fourth inning before it was suspended, and it will be picked up at that point tonight at 6 p.m. The championship game will follow immediately afterward.

The winning team will earn a berth in the Ponytail State Tournament on July 18 in Denison.

Two local teams will be playing in state tournaments at Coleman Park beginning July 18 as well.

Sulphur Springs will be hosting both the Dixie Belles and Debs next month, with a combined 14 teams being in town during that week. Hopkins County will have teams playing in both tournaments as the host teams.
