Coleman Park hosting boys, girls All-Star tournaments

June 24, 2008 - Over a half-dozen youth baseball and softball teams from Hopkins County will be in All-Star action this week across North and East Texas.
Included in the tournaments will be action at Coleman Park in Sulphur Springs.
In the 9-10-year-old Little League District 8 tournament, Pool A is currently underway at Coleman Park, with the Sulphur Springs Navy team participating.
SS Navy, coached by Chanse Fite, was beaten Monday, 12-11, by Carrollton. Navy will play again at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Coleman Park against McKinney Combined, which lost to the Dallas Reds, 9-7. The tournament concludes at 7:30 p.m. Friday with the winner of the Navy/McKinney contest playing the Carrollton/Dallas loser for the runner-up spot in the pool and a berth in the Championship Round.
Also playing for a place in the Championship Round is the Sulphur Springs Royal team, which also plays at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday against South Garland. SS Royal is in Pool D, which is being played at Central Park in Garland. SS Royal, coached by Pat Burns, received a first-round bye, and if they beat South Garland will earn a spot in the Championship Round.
In the Junior League (13-14-year-old) Division, Sulphur Springs blew away McKinney last night 11-1 in a match-up at Patterson Field in northwest Garland. Sulphur Springs, coached by Ralph Bryant, will play again at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Patterson Field against North Garland. The Junior League tourney is being played in a traditional double elimination format.
In two other tournaments, Sulphur Springs teams will begin play on Thursday. In the Little League (11-12-year-old) Division, Sulphur Springs, coached by Brandon Brock, will play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against the winner of Wylie and McKinney Combined in Pool C. The tournament is being played in Wylie.
In the 11-year-old Division, Sulphur Springs, coached by Rowdy Crowson, will take on the winner between Wylie and Denison at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at a site to be determined.
Beginning Friday, Coleman Park will be hosting Dixie District Tournaments for girls in Ponytail (11-12-year-old) and Belles (13-15-year-old) divisions.
Hopkins County teams will be playing at the following times:
Belles will play at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday.
� Ponytails play at 7 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday; and 3 p.m. Sunday.
