RC drops out of 7-on-7 league

From Staff Reports

June 12, 2008 - After just one week, Royse City has dropped out of the Sulphur Springs' 7-on-7 league, and will be replaced in the varsity division by the SSHS JV.

Royse City went 0-2 the first week of the four-week schedule, losing games to Sulphur Springs and Paris. They contacted SSHS athletic director Greg Owens on Wednesday and said cited the high cost of gasoline as the reason for their withdrawal.

The SSHS JV, which went 2-0 in the JV division last week, will now step into Royse City's spot in the varsity division and will play Mineola at 5 p.m. today and Winnsboro at 7 p.m. The domino effect means that the SSHS ninth-graders, who also went 2-0 in the JV division last week, will now take the junior's varsity's spot and play four straight games today.

The freshmen will take on Mount Vernon's JV at 4 p.m., Winnsboro's JV at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. and Como-Pickton's JV at 7 p.m.

four games are played simultaneously, beginning at 4 p.m. each Thursday in June, at the SSHS practice fields.
