June 2, 2008 - A pair of Sulphur Springs Wildcats were named recently to the TASCO All-Region Soccer Team, continuing a trend of postseason honors.
Senior midfielder Omar Ortiz and senior goal keeper Mario Arellano were both voted to the Class 4A, Region II squad by the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches.
Their classmate Tate Ramirez was earlier selected to play in the TASCO Senior Showcase.
Ortiz, a two-year starter for the Wildcats, was named First Team All-District 16-4A midfielder after scoring nine goals. He assisted on the Wildcats' only goal in their bi-district match against McKinney Boyd despite receiving 20 stitches in his head two days earlier after colliding with a teammate in practice.
Arellano, also a two-year starter, was a First Team All-District selection after recording eight shutouts in 2008.
Ramirez, meanwhile, led the team in goals scored with 14 and in assists with six. He had a four-goal game against Paris and scored the Wildcats' only goal in their bi-district match.
