Gideon signs golf scholarship to Texas A&M-Commerce

July 23, 2008 - COMMERCE - Former SSHS golf MVP Dustin Gideon has signed a letter of intent to play golf at Texas A&M-Commerce, announced head coach Louie Bledsoe.
Gideon was one of four golfers to sign with A&M-Commerce.
He graduated from SSHS in 2007 after being a four-year regional qualifier. He won or shared the team MVP all four years after winning three tournament titles and having eight top-five finishes and 10 top-10 finishes.
He was a four-time First Team All-District selection, a four-time regional qualifier and two-time team captain. He tied for the youngest ever winner of the Sulphur Springs Country Club championship in 2007.
The other athletes who signed with TAMU-Commerce were women's golfers Kathleen May and Malonie Oats and men's golfer Dillon Phillips.
May, a native of Bossier City, La., was a standout athlete at Parkway High School there. Oats, meanwhile, is a 2008 graduate of Cooper High School, where she was a four-year lettermen on the golf team. She was named the Female Athlete of the Year as a senior. As a senior, she advanced to the state golf tournament.
Phillips is a 2008 graduate of Edgewood High School, where he participated in four state tournaments. Edgewood and Phillips won state titles during his sophomore and junior seasons and finished runner-up as a senior. As a senior, he was the team’s top finisher at the state, regional and district tournaments.
