Belles, Dixie state tourneys start here Friday

July 16, 2008 - A pair of Dixie Softball State Tournaments will get underway at Coleman Park on Friday and end with the championship game on either Sunday or Monday.

Both the Belles State Tournament and the Debs State Tournament will each feature seven teams, including one from Hopkins County.

The Debs tournament will start on Friday, with the Hopkins County team playing Coldsprings at 8 p.m. on Field 2 at Coleman Park. Also playing are Denison vs. Tarkington at 6 p.m. and Cleveland vs. Red River at 8 p.m. on Field 3. Franklin County received a bye.

If the local Debs win Friday, then will take on Franklin County at 11 a.m. Saturday on Field 2. The tournament's championship game is set for 5 p.m. Sunday, but in the double-elimination format, there could be a rematch of the final two teams on Monday at 6 p.m.

In the Belles tournament, the local team received a first-round bye and will play at 9 a.m. Saturday against the winner between the District 7 champion and the District 2 champion. The tournament's championship game is set for 7 p.m. Sunday, but in the double-elimination format, there could be a rematch of the final two teams on Monday at 6 p.m.

Belles games start at 6 p.m. Friday with two games.
