Benefit golf tourney raises money, awards $25,000 to Land's End VFW
From Staff Reports
July 9, 2008 - The Fifth Annual Toyota Firemen's Golf Benefit was held at The Links at Land's End on June 21, benefiting Land's End Volunteer Fire Department.
Players had multiple opportunities to win prizes on virtually every hole and competed in more than 50 separate contests, including five hole-in-ones for a new Toyota Tundra, Ranger bass boat, Kubota RTV, pontoon boat and even a real estate lot on the golf course with free golf for life; plus a putting contest for $30,000 cash.Although no one shot a hole-in-one, over $25,000 in cash and prizes was given away through the other contests, the prize raffle, and in player goodie bags.
According to Land's End Fire Chief, T.J. Henshaw, “Our tournament is all about making sure the players have a terrific day and experience a total event, not just golf. They love to compete in our contests, some of which are just for fun, like the marshmallow drive or potato putt. The players also love our volunteers who work the event and enjoy it as much as the golfers do."
"I'm very proud of the fantastic support we get from Toyota, from the neighborhoods around Lake Fork and from the generous local businesses that sponsor teams and holes or donate merchandise and services for our prizes. The people of East Texas are truly the best.”
Next year's tournament will be a four-person scramble on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at The Links. The tournament is limited to 30 four-person teams and fills up well in advance every year. You can reserve a team by contacting Henshaw at 903-383-7496, but no payment will be due until next year.
