Rough week for Hopkins County All-Stars

July 6, 2008 - It was a rough week for the Little League All-Star teams representing Sulphur Springs.

Four teams were eliminated in their district tournaments, while two more were still alive.

One of the bright spots came from the 11-year-old team coached by Rowdy Crowson.They defeated Denison Tuesday evening 7-5, which put them in the district finals against South Garland in Wylie. To advance to the regional tournament, they would have to beat South Garland twice.

The Junior League team (13-14-year-olds), coached by Ralph Bryant, lost 8-0 to North Garland on Thursday, eliminating them from district play one game short of playing for the tournament championship.

The Little Leaguers (11-12-year-olds), coached by Brandon Brock, were defeated Tuesday night, 12-1 by The Colony, in the single-elimination Championship Bracket, ending their season.

In the 7-8-year-old tournament, three teams were playing in two different sites. The SS Royal squad, coached by Tory Humphries, was beaten by Sherman, 13-11. They were scheduled to play Sachse in Sherman. A win will secure them a place in the regional tournament.

The SS Navy squad, coached by Kevin Monk, was eliminated by Sachse Tuesday night 16-13, while the SS Black team, coached by Jerry Burton, was eliminated by Corsicana Wednesday night 16-6.
