From Staff Reports
Jan. 29, 2008 - The Sulphur Springs junior varsity girls played in their first soccer tournament last weekend and came away with a second-place trophy.
The Lady Cats split four games and had two players named All-Tournament, utility player Kelsey Cullens, who is normally on varsity but had missed the first part of the season due to illness, and goal keeper Connie Gaddis.
The Lady Cats won their first two games, a 1-0 victory over Dallas Molina in which freshman Melissa Mayo scored the winning goal, and a 2-0 win over Richardson in which freshman Syndi Nguyen put in both goals.
The Lady Cats then played an out-of-pool game against Wichita Falls, losing 4-0, on Saturday morning. That evening, they played in the championship game of their bracket, an fell to Arlington, 5-0.
"All-in all, we played hard and we played well," said coach Joel Bailey. "A lot of girls got some game-time experiences, which was very valuable. This is the first time our JV has been taken to a tournament, and we got second place in our bracket."
