Wildcats open with tie against Willis

From Staff Reports

Jan. 11, 2008 - LONGVIEW - The Wildcat soccer squad opened their 2008 season in a scoreless tie with Willis on Thursday.

The Wildcats, playing in the Pine Tree tournament, were good defensively, but couldn't find the net with their shots, said head coach Andy Holt.

Senior goalie Mario Arellano, who received stitches in his head on Tuesday after colliding with a Frisco Liberty player in their final scrimmage, was able to play on Thursday and managed to keep Willis off the scoreboard.

Holt said right back Tate Ramirez and sweeper Omar Ortiz both played well along with forward Cruz Luzano, who "created some opportunities."

The Wildcats are scheduled to play again today at 9:15 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Depending on the outcome of those games, the Cats will play again either Friday afternoon or Saturday.
