Lady Eagles start district play with two victories

Jan. 4, 2008 - COMO - The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles are 2-0 in District 16-2A with wins over Hawkins and Alba-Golden.

The Lady Eagles defeated Hawkins, 73-68, in overtime and then defeated Alba-Golden, 64-24, Thursday night.

Against Hawkins, the Lady Eagles trailed 35-30 at the half and 50-36 after three quarters of play. The Lady Eagles then outscored the Lady Hawks, 18-14, in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime.

Maci Kight was the team's leading scorer with 32 points while Rebecca Humphrey added 17 points as she drained two 3-pointers. Kaycee Thomas added 15 points, Katie Moss added eight points, Shelby Harrison scored two points and Mollye Lay scored one.

In the win over Alba-Golden, CPHS jumped out to a 18-2 lead after the first quarter, a 35-13 lead at the half and a 51-17 lead after three quarters.

Lay had a team-high 14 points with two 3-pointers, Moss had 13 points with two 3-pointers, Kight had 13 points, Humphrey added 10 points with a 3-pointer, Harrison scored six points, and Thomas and Jordan Carlock scored four points each.

Como-Pickton returns to the court at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow when they travel to Quitman to play the Lady Bulldogs.
