Ponytails go 1-2 in Dixie World Series

Aug. 10, 2008 - PINEVILLE, La. - The Hopkins County Ponytail All-Stars won their opening game in the Dixie World Series last weekend, but fell by close scores in their final two games.
The double-elimination tournament was played at the Ward 9 Sportsplex
Hopkins County 6, Mississippi 1
Katie Sapaugh, Enlin Mantha and Kasey Moore all pitched well and combined for eight strikeouts and two walks in the tournament opener on Saturday, Aug. 2.
Jaci Davis hit a bases-loaded triple that put the game away for Hopkins County. Other hits came by way of Enlin Mantha and Kasey Moore with singles, and Ashley Matthews with a double.
Hopkins County also committed no errors in the game.
Alabama 4, Hopkins County 2
Mantha, Sapaugh and Moore combined for four strikeouts and two walks in the circle, holding Alabama to four runs on Sunday, Aug. 3.
Taja Evans led Hopkins County at the plate with a triple, Mikaela Jacks had a double, and Mantha and Shakoja Debase each singled.
Virginia 6, Hopkins County 5
Mantha, Moore and Davis combined to strikeout eight Virginia batters while issuing just two walks on Sunday. However, Hopkins County's defensive miscues led to all six Virginia runs.
Moore led the team at the plate with a home run and a single, Ashley Matthews had a double and single, Sapaugh added a double, and Mantha Macy Johnston and Jacks each had a single.
