Lady Lions swept in bi-district

From Staff Reports

April 29, 2008 - SALTILLO - The Saltillo Lady Lions were swept in their best-of-three bi-district softball series against James Bowie last weekend by scores of 14-3 and 9-2.

In Game 2, Saltillo held a 2-0 lead through the first 3 1/2 innings before James Bowie tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth. The Lady Pirates scored two in the fourth, four in the fifth and three in the sixth to take the 9-2 lead.

Saltillo's Winter Johnson, Kimber Thompson and Cassie Prather each went 2-for-4 as Thompson had two RBI with the bases loaded. Teammates Kirsten McLane, Brooke Lane and Emily White each went 1-for-4.

"After losing the first game, the girls came out with hard hitting and scoring," said Saltillo coach Mimi Kempenaar. "We would have runners in scoring position but just couldn't finish. We're young and this was a great experience for them to build on for next year."

James Bowie will face Beckville in the area round.
