NH girls win warm-up game

April 29, 2008 - CROSS ROADS - North Hopkins Lady Panthers wrapped up their warm-up games with a 2-0 win over the Cross Roads Lady Cats Monday night.

"We played good fundamental softball for a good win on the road," said NHHS coach Jim Westbrook.

Chastin Smiddy picked up the win in the circle with a complete game, four-hitter striking out four batters.

Senior Cayla Newkirk led the way for the Lady Panthers at the plate going 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Smiddy, Jessica Harry, Ashley Deaton, Tana Hall, Chrissy Hall and Courtney Loper recorded one hit each.

The Lady Panthers will play Joaquin on Friday in the area round of the Class A playoffs. Joaquin defeated Gilmer Union Hill 26-0 in the bi-district round last week.
