Yantis nails down runner-up spot in district baseball

From Staff Reports

April 28, 2008 - FRUITVALE - The Yantis Owls nailed down the runner-up slot in District 19-A baseball Friday with a 3-1 win over Martins Mill in a game that broke a tie in the standings.

Daniel Cerretani struck out eight and gave up just three hits for the win.

The Owls had seven hits led by Jordan Davis, who had two hits and two RBI.

"Jordan picked a good time to start hitting for us and Cerretani was tough on the mound," Yantis coach Larry Tucker said. "Cerretani started hurting in the fourth inning, but he wanted to finish and he really came through. With the exception of a few mental lapses, we played pretty well."

The Owls will now face Beckville at Kilgore's Driller Park this Friday. It is the Owl's third playoff appearance in the past four years.
