Wildcats to face Kilgore in playoffs

From Staff Reports

April 27, 2008 - After locking down the No. 2-seed in District 11-4A on Tuesday, the Sulphur Springs Wildcats know who they will play in the bi-district round of the playoffs this weekend.

The Wildcats (14-9) will face District 12-4A's No. 3-seed Kilgore Bulldogs, who advanced after winning a tiebreaker against Marshall Friday night. Sulphur Springs head coach Jerrod Hammack and Kilgore coach Jeff Blackstone were scheduled to meet in Quitman today to set up a date, time and location for the playoff game.

Kilgore (15-11, 8-6 in District 12-4A) defeated Marshall, 4-2, at Kilgore's Driller Park to clinch their fifth straight postseason berth. Kilgore and Marshall tied for third with 8-6 district records, but Kilgore won both of the head-to-head match-ups to advance to the playoffs.

The Wildcats, meanwhile, defeated North Lamar, 9-2, on Senior Night as Kevin Mabe was the winning pitcher. A recap of the game and playoff details will be in Monday's News-Telegram.
