Cumby's Neal qualifies for area meet in five events

April 6, 2008 - DeKALB - Cumby freshman Savanah Neal was a double-winner at the District 20-A track and field meet and will advance to area in five events.

She will lead a contingent of 13 Trojans and Lady Trojans who finished in the top four in their respective events, qualifying them for the area meet on Wednesday at DeKalb High School.


Neal won both the long jump and the 100-meter hurdles, placed second in the triple jump and ran legs on both the 4x200 and 4x400 relays. Times and distances were not available.

The Lady Trojans' 4x400 relay team of Neal, Sabryna Irwin, Ashley Anderson and Laura Oviedo placed second, while the 4x200 relay of Brittany Seely, Neal, Anderson and Oviedo placed third. Oviedo is also advancing in the triple jump and 200-meter dash after placing third each, and Anderson took fourth in the 800.

Ariel Parker will advance in two events as she placed third in both the 100-meter hurdles and 300 hurdles. Kailee Sartin was fourth in the triple jump.

Also placing but not advancing were Oviedo, fifth in the high jump; Seely, fifth in the 300 hurdles and sixth in the 100 hurdles; Parker, sixth in the 1,600; Irwin, sixth in the 400; and the 4x100 relay of Sartin, Irwin, Whitney Webb and Rubi Quintero placed sixth.


Sophomore Brixx Hawthorne placed in the top four in three events to earn a trip to area. He will be joined by five teammates.

Hawthorne placed third in the 400 and fourth in both the 100 and 200.

Timmy Cook will advance in two events as he placed fourth in the high jump and ran on the fourth-place 4x400 relay team with Rodney Hobbs, Nathan Dunnihoo and Brian Clem. Alex Reyes also advanced by taking fourth in the 1,600.

Also placing but not advancing were Clem, fifth in the shot put; Reyes, fifth in the 3,200; Cook, sixth in both the 400 and 800; the 4x200 relay team of Clem, Hobbs, Dunnihoo and Jake Vann, fifth; and the 4x100 relay team of Kobie Hodgdon, Hobbs, Dunnihoo and Vann, sixth.
