North Hopkins' Mannis is double winner at 20-A meet

April 4, 2008 - DEKALB - Jessi Mannis won two events at the District 20-A girls track and field meet on Wednesday and Courtney Loper won one event as the Lady Panthers finished sixth in the team standings.

The Lady Panthers advanced five athletes to the area meet on April 9 at DeKalb. The top four in district advance to the area meet.

Mannis won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:47, while teammates Jessica Jones and Blair Bassham finished in fifth and sixth, respectively. In the 3,200 meters, Mannis finished first with a time of 12:36, while Jones ran a 14:10 and Bassham ran a 14:27 to advance to area with third and fourth place finishes.

Kaylea Flippin finished in sixth in the 400 meters, while the 4x400 relay team of Brittany Whaley, Kalea Flippin, Bassham and Mannis finished in sixth place.

In the field events, Tana Hall finished fourth and advanced to area in the shot put, while Loper won the discus with a throw of 92-1. Desiree Brown was sixth in the shot.

In the other field events, Joy Johnson was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 13 1/2, while Brittany Whaley was sixth in the triple jump at 28-5.

Long Jump - 6. Joy Johnson 13 1/2.

Triple Jump - 6. Brittany Whaley 28-5.

Shot Put - 4. Tana Hall; 6. Desiree Brown.

Discus - 1. Courtney Loper 92-1.

3,200-meter run - 1. Jessi Mannis, 12:36; 3. Jessica Jones, 14:10; 4. Blair Bassham 14:27.

1,600-meter run - 1. Mannis 5:47; 5. Jones, 6:35; Bassham, 6:36.

400 - 6. Kaylea Flippin.

1,600-meter relay - 6. Whaley, Flippin, Bassham, Mannis.
