NH boys, girls win by identical scores

April 2, 2008 - The North Hopkins Panthers and Lady Panthers picked up wins against district competition Tuesday by identical scores.

The Panthers defeated Campbell 13-2, while the Lady Panthers defeated Sulphur Bluff by a score of 13-2.


North Hopkins 13, Sulphur Bluff 2

BIRTHRIGHT - Jessica Harry led North Hopkins at the plate and in the circle as she went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and pitched a complete game. She gave up two runs on one hit with three walks while striking out eight.

Teammate Courtney Loper went 2-for-4 with a grand slam home run, while Chelsea Hampton, Ashley Deaton and Crissy Hall each went 1-for-3. Deaton had a home run for the Lady Panthers, while Hall had a run scored.

"Harry had three assists in the game including the beginning of a 1-6-3 double play," said NHHS coach Jim Westbrook.

The Lady Panthers are now 13-7 overall and 3-0 in District 17-A.


NHHS 13, Campbell 2

The Panthers had a strong pitching outing from the duo of Canyon Cockrum and Patrick Gold in their run-rule victory.

The two pitchers combined to give up two hits and three walks while striking out 11 batters. Both of the Campbell runs were earned.

The Panthers were led at the plate by Cockrum, who went 4-for-4 with four runs scored, four RBI and a home run. Teammate Joe Smiddy went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored, while Gold went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.

Others recording hits were Bradley Ball, Paco Castro, Jason Leber and Lorenzo Rivera.

"I am real proud of Pat Gold as he has worked hard all season and it is starting to pay off," said NHHS coach Tim Henderson. "Everybody hit the ball well and Cockrum stepped up on the mound and at the plate."
