Mannis, Stinson hook up in another race

Oct. 1, 2007 - MOUNT PLEASANT - North Hopkins' Jessi Mannis and Como-Pickton's Bethanie Stinson again were matched up against each other Saturday to see who would be the champion of the Titus County Fair Cross Country Invitational Meet.
In the end, it was Mannis, who won the race in a time of 12 minutes, 45 seconds. Stinson was fourth in 13:37 out of 107 runners.
Both runners have qualified for the state cross country meet all three of their previous years in high school and appear to be headed back. They have also qualified in multiple events for the state track and field meet.
Led by Mannis' winning effort, North Hopkins finished fourth overall in the team standings behind Chapel Hill, Lindale and Hughes Springs.
Behind Mannis were teammates Cayla Newkirk, 23rd place in 14:26; Brittany Whaley, 33rd place in 14:44; Virginia Thomas, 37th place in 14:56; Kaylea Flippin, 39th in 15:01; Laiken Gammill, 47th in 15:16; and Blair Bassham, 49th in 15:18.
In the JV division, NH's Jessica Jones finished in 17:17.
In the JV boys division, Como-Pickton freshman Hunter Cain placed fourth out of 81 runners in a time of 19:12 over the 3.1-mile course.
Junior high girls running for Como-Pickton were Danielle Midgeley, Marbelis Rasgado and Elena Preciado
Junior high boys competing for the Eagles were Even Tellez, Jesus Preciado and John Martinez.
