Yantis comes from behind to win 15th straight match

Sept. 24, 2007 - MILLER GROVE - After a lopsided 9-25 first game loss to Miller Grove, the Yantis Lady Owls stormed back with intensity to overcome a tough Lady Hornet squad with three exciting wins of 25-22, 25-16, 25-22 on Friday. It was the 15th consecutive win for Yantis and put the Lady Owls at 2-0 in District 18-A and 19-1 for the year.

Miller Grove came out in the first game and shocked Yantis with an 8-0 lead which they stretched to 20-7 before finishing off the Lady Owls with the 9-25 final tally.

The second game was a see-saw affair, but it was the constant defensive pressure by the Lady Owls and the serving of Christina Tauzen, Isy Reyna and Amanda McKinney that secured the 25-22 win.

The third game was a Yantis rout with Jamie Gilliland, Traci Glenn and Holly Madden consistently making digs to stop Lady Hornet kill threats. The Lady Owls opened up a 23-9 cushion before settling with the 25-16 win on two strong serves by Gilliland.

The final 25-22 Yantis win was not without a struggle. The teams battled back and forth with the Lady Owls keeping a close lead throughout the game. With the score at 24-22, Tauzen sent a serve to the backcourt that could not be handled giving the Lady Owls the important district victory.

Reyna had seven kills, three aces, four tips for scores, four assists and four blocks. McKinney added six kills, five tips, five digs, four assists and a block; Gilliland had six kills, five tips, seven digs and four assists; Tauzen added five kills, two aces and three assists; Madden recorded two kills, a tip, six digs, six assists and a block; and Glenn put up three kills, a tip, six assists and six digs.

Yantis will be at home against North Hopkins on Tuesday.
