NH girls run away with title

Sept. 24, 2007 - MOUNT VERNON - The North Hopkins Lady Panthers ran away with the team championship at the Mount Vernon cross country meet on Saturday, with five girls placing in the top 10.

Senior Jessi Mannis again finished on top, winning the individual title in a time of 12 minutes, 36 seconds on the two-mile course. She was followed by Scarlett Lozano in fifth (14:03), Cayla Newkirk in sixth (14:12), Virginia Thomas in seventh (14:23) and Brittany Whaley in 10th (14:32). Blair Bassham also won a medal for finishing 15th in 14:55, and Kaylea Flippin was 18th (15:17).

The Lady Panthers beat out Mount Pleasant, North Lamar and Mount Vernon.

In the JV division, freshman Laiken Gammill won the individual championship in a time of 15:15.
