Baxter leads Raiders with four TD's
From Staff Reports
Sept. 15, 2007 - HARLETON - Winnsboro's fullback doesn't touch the ball much for the Red Raiders, but when he does, good things happen.
Chaz Baxter scored four touchdowns, on just eight carries, to help the Red Raiders pull away to a 35-13 victory over the Harleton Wildcats on Friday.
Winnsboro, coming off a 1-point loss to Hughes Springs last week, improved to 2-1, the same record as Harleton.
The Red Raiders had to actually come from behind, though, as Harleton turned a first-quarter fumble near midfield into a 1-yard scoring run by Ryan Nichols to take a 7-0 lead.
Winnsboro reeled off three straight scoring drives, with Baxter doing the scoring honors on all three, to take a 21-7 halftime advantage. The Red Raiders' broken wishbone offense chewed up the first half clock, first with a 14-play, 69-yard drive capped by Baxter's 8-yard TD run.
Baxter added a 65-yard TD run and then caught a 38-yard TD from quarterback Sean Ditto with 68 seconds left before halftime. Baxter finished with 125 yards rushing on seven carries.
Halfback Tommy Evans added a TD and finished with 66 yards on eight carries. Baxter put the final scoring touches on the board for the Raiders with a 44-yard TD run.
The Red Raiders travel to Mount Vernon on Friday for their annual grudge match with the Purple Tigers. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
