Hornets split doubleheader

Sept. 13, 2007 - The Miller Grove Hornets continued their junior high fall baseball season with a split against Avery in doubleheader action Monday.

Avery won Game 1 by a score of 6-1, and then Miller Grove (3-1) shutout Avery 5-0 in Game 2.

In Game 1, Patrick Covington had the only hit of the game for the Hornets with a double and scored the only run of the game.

Quinten Stovall went three innings on the mound, giving up five runs on two hits, while teammates Reid Burns and Nathan George came on in relief.

In Game 2, Covington and Tyler Lennon combined for a one-hit shutout for the Hornets. Covington gave up a double in the first inning.

Defensively, The Hornets turned a double play as Avery had runners on first and second with no outs in the third inning. Following a passed ball, Burns threw out the runner at third base and then Stovall threw out the runner going to second.

Burns went 1-for-2 , Lennon went 1-for-1, and Stovall had a two-run single in the second inning.
