Hughes Springs does it again to Winnsboro

Sept. 9, 2007 - WINNSBORO - The Winnsboro Red Raiders will have to wait another year to get even with Hughes Springs.
Hughes Springs handed Winnsboro its only regular season loss last year, and did it again on Friday, scoring a late TD and kicking the crucial extra point in a 27-26 victory.
Winnsboro (1-1) had increased a 14-13 halftime lead to 26-13 midway through the third quarter, but Hughes Springs (2-0) came back with two final TDs, including a 1-yard plunge by Jarrod McKinney with just 54 seconds remaining in the game.
McKinney finished with a team-high 85 yards rushing on 24 attempts, and teammate Lane Teel added 67 yards, including a 23-yard touchdown run, on nine carries.
The Red Raiders were paced by halfback Tommy Evans,who scored three TDs and rushed for 149 yards on nine carries. Quarterback Sean Ditto added 112 yards and one TD on 13 carries. Winnsboro finished with 318 yards rushing.
The Red Raiders play at Harleton on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
Brownsboro 48, Mount Vernon 33
MOUNT VERNON - Brownsboro quarterback Zack Bailey had too much firepower for the Mount Tigers to contain on Friday.
Bailey threw for 304 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Bears past Mount Vernon, 48-33.
Mount Vernon (1-1) quarterback Christian Butler tossed two touchdowns for the Tigers, but also threw three interceptions.
Reggie McDonald rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown for Mount Vernon, which also received a 50-yard interception return by Stanley Wood in the loss.
Brownsboro improved to 2-0.
Mount Vernon will play Buffalo in Gladewater in a rare Thursday night contest next week. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
