Cumby falls to Warriors

Sept. 9, 2007 - CUMBY - The Cumby Trojans suffered their first loss of the young season with a 23-16 defeat to the Rockwall Christian Warriors at Trojan Field Friday night.

Senior running back Nathan Dunnihoo led the Trojans (1-1) with 93 yards rushing on 19 carries and had a touchdown rushing and receiving in the second quarter.

After a scoreless first quarter, the two teams combined for 31 points before the intermission as Cumby held a 16-15 lead on Dunnihoo's 54-yard catch-and-run from Brixx Hawthorne. Teammate Jake Vann converted the two-point conversion for their final score of the game.

The Warriors scored the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter as Clayton Jones found Austin Daugherty for a 33-yard touchdown reception. Jones converted the two-point conversion for a 23-16 lead.

Cumby quarterback Brixx Hawthorne went 7-of-23 for 128 yards with one touchdown and one interception and also had six carries for 46 yards. Teammate Kris Stanford had four receptions for 41 yards, while Timmy Cook had two catches for 31 yards.

Rockwall Christian had 374 yards of total offense compared to 276 for the Trojans.

Cumby will travel to Detroit next week with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
