Mannis wins seventh meet; NH hosting district CC competition on Wednesday

Oct. 23, 2007 - ATLANTA - North Hopkins senior Jessi Mannis won her seventh straight cross country meet of the season on Saturday.

The Lady Panthers finished in third place behind Pine Tree and Longview as North Hopkins was the only 1A school in the meet.

Mannis won the two-mile race with a time of 12 minutes, 5 seconds, while teammate Blair Bassham finished 18th in 13:54, Brittany Whaley was 22nd in 14:08, Cayla Newkirk was 24th in 14:15, Laiken Gammill was 29th in 14:22, and Kaylea Flippin rounded out the varsity with a time of 14:50.

In the junior varsity girls division, Jessica Jones finished fifth in a time of 15:14, while Adrianna Sanchez (19:34) and Chrissy Hall (20:04) also ran for the Lady Panthers.

North Hopkins will host the District 20-A cross country meet Wednesday as the junior varsity girls will begin at 1:30 p.m., followed by the varsity girls, varsity boys, junior high girls and junior high boys.

The top 10 individuals and top three teams will advance to the Region III meet at North Harris County College in Humble on Nov. 3.

The teams that will be competing are: North Hopkins, Avery, Bloomburg, Detroit, Maud, McLeod, Simms Bowie and Yantis.
