C-P subvarsity wins pair

Oct. 19, 2007 - COMO - The Como-Pickton Eagles subvarsity teams won two games and lost one Thursday night against the Quitman Bulldogs at Ron Heflin Field.
The junior varsity won its game, 7-6, while the seventh grade team won 50-42, and the eighth grade lost 24-16.
In the seventh-grade game, the final score was the most points scored in a game at Como-Pickton.
The subvarsity teams will play at Winnsboro next Thursday beginning at 5 p.m.
In the eighth-grade game, Quitman took an 8-0 lead into the second quarter, but the Como-Pickton offense found some life in the second quarter as quarterback Brodie Ogle completed passes of 14 and 27 yards to Cameron Bain to lead to their first score.
Tanner Brumley scored their opening touchdown on a 5-yard run as Ogle found Bain on the two-point conversion to tie the game at 8-8.
On the next series, Ogle and Paxton Vail rushed the quarterback as Brumley intercepted the pass and ran 40 yards for the touchdown. He then scored the two-point conversion as CP held a 16-8 lead.
Quitman tied the game with 21 seconds left in the half.
Following a scoreless third quarter, the Bulldogs took a 24-16 lead in the fourth period.
With only last chance to tie the game, the Eagles drove down to the Quitman 5-yard line. but were held on downs.
Defensive standouts were Bain, Daniel Walker, Trevor Cagle, Hernon Martinez, Brumley and Ogle.
Ogle went 5-for-10 for 58 yards passing, while Brumley had 78 yards rushing on 14 carries and Bain was the leading receiver with four catches for 58 yards.
