Bears take second at Avery CC meet

Oct. 18, 2007 - AVERY - The Sulphur Bluff cross country boys finished second at the Avery High School meet, while the junior high boys won the team championship and the junior varsity boys finished third on Saturday.

The varsity boys had a strong showing from Everett Wilder and Trey Henderson as the finished second and fourth, respectively. Wilder finished in a time of 17 minutes, 8 seconds, while Henderson ran a 17:29 and Gerardo Rodriguez also received a medal finishing 10th in a time of 19:58.

Others who ran for Sulphur Bluff were Colt Nicholls, Zach Hope, Ismael Gutierrez and Josh Formoso.

The JV boys were led by Jeremy Hatfield with an eighth-place finish, while Hunter Vaughn, Travis Allen and Robert Messick also ran for the Bears.

In the junior high boys division, Clint Wolf was the runner-up in the race with a clocking of 11:44, while Ken Wade was fourth in a time of 12:33. Others who ran for the Bears were Cameron Hancock, Landon Overly, Dustin Foster, Jackson Dailey and Clay Mitchell.

The JV girls had one runner in the race as Marissa Vaughn finished in fifth place.

Sulphur Bluff will run in the district meet on Monday at Lake Bob Sandlin.
