Mannis wins sixth meet; Stinson also places first

Oct. 15, 2007 - The North Hopkins girls, paced by another winning performance from senior Jessi Mannis, won the team title at the Avery High School cross country meet on Saturday. Meanwhile in Paris, Como-Pickton senior Bethanie Stinson won the individual title at the North Lamar Invitational.
AVERY - Mannis, a three-year medalist at the state meet, won her sixth straight meet on Saturday with a time of 12 minutes, 13 seconds as all seven NH runners placed in the top 15.
Teammates Cayla Newkirk finished fourth with a time of 13:26, Blair Bassham was sixth in 13:38, Brittany Whaley was seventh in 13:48, and Kaylea Flippin rounded out the top 10 in ninth place with a time of 13:53.
Virgina Thomas was 12th in 14:00, while Laiken Gammill was 12 seconds back in 13th place.
In the junior varsity girls division, Jessica Jones won the race in a time of 14:33.
North Hopkins will host the district cross country meet on Wednesday, Oct. 24, with races starting at 1:30 p.m.
PARIS - Bethanie Stinson continued a strong senior season with the individual championship in a time of 12:21 out of 91 runners in the race.
The race had 42 runners from Class A-2A and 49 runners from class 3A-5A.
In the varsity boys division, Ole Gutierrez finished in 11th place out of 60 runners in the 1A-2A division in a time of 19:26, while Hunter Cain finished in 13th with a time of 19:35 on the 3.1-mile course.
In the junior high girls division, Victoria Fuller led the way with a time of 16:52. Also running for Como-Pickton was Elena Preciado, Marbelis Rasgado and Alexus Harris.
