Trojans shut down Knights in opener

Oct. 14, 2007 - DALLAS - The Cumby Trojans opened up the District 17-A schedule with a 40-0 shutout of the Dallas A+ Academy Knights Friday night.

The win improves the Trojans to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in district with the Celeste Blue Devils coming to town for homecoming on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The Blue Devils won their district opener, 40-13, over Fruitvale on Friday.

Cumby welcomed senior B.T. Brown back to the Trojan lineup and he did not let the team down as he scored two touchdowns on an 8-yard run for their opening touchdown. He also had a 38-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Brixx Hawthorne for the game's final score.

The Trojans jumped out to a 28-0 first quarter lead as Hawthorne had a 37-yard scoring run, Kris Stanford returned a punt 65 yards for a TD, and senior offensive lineman Michael Cross had a 2-yard touchdown run.

Senior tailback Nathan Dunnihoo also had a touchdown in the third quarter and finished with seven carries for 62 yards. Hawthorne was the game's leading rusher with six carries for 100 yards and one touchdown.

Brown led the team in receiving with two catches for 60 yards and one touchdown, while Hawthorne went 4-of-8 for 79 yards and one touchdown.

The Trojan defense held the Knights to only six yards of total offense and one first down in the game.
