NH boys running in McNeil Invitational

From Staff Reports

Oct. 5, 2007 - BIRTHRIGHT - The North Hopkins boys cross country team will be competing in the McNeil Cross Country Invitational this weekend.

The McNeil meet is the site of the state meet where North Hopkins finished third in the state in Class A last year.

"As a coaching staff, we are trying to get them to run every lap, every practice and every meet as if it were the state meet," said NHHS coach Matt Rager. "The boys are buying into the fact that we are running for a state championship, not just for a weekend meet."

The Panthers are currently ranked fifth in the state and have put together back-to-back first place finishes in the last two meets. In the Mount Pleasant meet, the Panthers finished third, 11th, 20th, 31st and 43rd during the meet.

Rager said he hopes getting an early look at the state course will help the team prepare for the state meet on Nov. 10.

"The McNeil Invitational will be a good meet for us to see where we stand," he said. "If we can go down and compete with the best teams in the State for 1A-3A then we know our hard work is paying off.

Team members are Jose Cadena, Eric Perez, Lorenzo Rivera, Dylan Horne, Brandon Joslin, Paco Castro and Roger Sancho.
