Yantis takes down Wolfe City in non-district match

Oct. 3, 2007 - YANTIS - It was a showdown of undefeated district leaders as Yantis of District 18-A and Wolfe City (14-A) battled before a playoff atmosphere crowd. The Lady Wolves are currently tied for the District 14-A lead at 3-0 and Yantis leads their district 4-0.

After Wolfe City won the first game 25-19, the Lady Owls regained their composure to take three straight games 25-22, 25-23, 25-15.

"This was a great test for our girls," Yantis coach Dana Gilliland. "We have been working extra hard at practice and needed a game like this going into the last four district games."

The Lady Owls and Wolfe City challenged each other on each possession. The win was the 17th consecutive for Yantis and made their season record 22-1.

Amanda McKinney had six kills, five tips for points, six digs and three assists; Jamie Gilliland posted three aces, five kills, seven tips, three digs and four assists; Holly Madden four kills, two tips, four digs and two assists; Isy Reyna four kills, five tips, eight digs and four assists Christina Tauzen three kills, two aces, one dig and three assists; and Baylee Gilbreath two kills, three tips, three digs and six assists.

The Lady Owls have a bye this Friday and resume District 18-A action at Union Hill on Tuesday.
